In Japan, There is a city form called new town which was rapidly developed from the 1960s to first half of the 1980s. It is based on an idea new at that time which considers what it carries out our life with a convenient and comfortable life with modernization not only in the unit of an individual residence, but in the whole town.
Among them, the Senri new town where I was born and grew up is a city used as the venue of the Osaka Expo in 1970, and developed as a model town of those days where modernistic collective housing stands in a row.
At present, this new town is still very convenient and comfortable, with the good orders of the high-rise apartments, a means of transportation and a public facility. However, because of the various changes of a time or a sense of values, such as a lifestyle, a family structure, and low birthrate and longevity, it cannot be denied that the gap has come out between the future anticipation figure which were drawn those days and reality. Moreover, the generation who grew up in this ideal city is alive today, holding gap between themselves and the Homo futurus imagined at that time. I wonder how much this convenient and comfortable town could make people affluent as expected.
In Japan, many advertisement leaflets come with the newspaper that is delivered every morning. The series of this floor plan is made by collecting a housing advertisement from those leaflets, clipping the floor plans printed there using a cutter one by one, and gathering them in large quantities.
A floor plan is what compresses it to two dimensions supposing three-dimensional space originally. Clipping it is the important process of giving a feel and a reality for the floating image as if it pulls back to three-dimensional space again.
Moreover, when you see each floor plan, you will find that they are very similar, although they are different housing. Because of the consideration of all efficiency such as an optimization of construction and a patternization of the way of living, the floor plan is becoming homogenized. Furthermore, by gathering, they are returned to an inorganic and geometric form of a vertical and a horizontal line.

What exists here is an abstract form, and not a life. Where on earth will the future anticipation figure which is drawn by a beautiful geometry go to?
