‘器’について / A vessel
器には、何かを“受ける、満たす、蓄える、取り出す”といったような機能がある。
つまり、器は本来の目的を器のみで果たすことはできない。
器を考えるときには、あらかじめそこに“何ものか”を想定し、それとの関係の上で考えていく必要がある。
器の構造を見てみると、非常に曖昧ではあるが‘内の空間’と‘外の空間’が存在する。
空間は器によって内側という有限の空間と、外側という無限の空間に分けられる。
器は形の留めないものや、形のないものに、外側から形を与える役割を果たすものなのである。
これこそが‘器’の最大の機能であると考える。
テレビやインターネット、携帯電話などの発達によって、今日の社会は情報過多の時代と言われている。
多くの情報を手に入れられるという利点の裏側には、意識の中での距離感が無くなり、遠い国の出来事も、近い国の出来事も全てが均質化され、リアリティーを感じることができにくくなっている。
このような社会において、私たちに求められるのは氾濫する情報を自らの‘器’によってすくうことである。
自分自身の‘器’を認識し、今何を受け入れ、形にするのか。
世界を自分の扱えるサイズに変換する必要が生じる。
私は‘器’こそ現代社会において、自己あるいは他者、ひいては世界をみつめることを可能にすると考える。

The vessel has some functions "receive something, fill it with something, or keep something in it and so on."
That is the vessel can't achieve the objective by itself.
When we think of a vessel we always associate something with it.
Observing a vessel, we find there are two spaces, one inside and the other side.
In short, the space is divided into two the vessel.
The space inside is limited, and the space outside is infinite.
The vessel gives a form to anything formless.
This is the most important role of vessel.
Due to the development of the television, the Internet and mobile phone, the present society has too much information. We can get a lot of information easily.
However, at the same time both events of distant countries and these of nearby countries are all homogenized and eventually they don't seem real.
In such society, it is essential for us to scoop some out of the flooding information with our own 'vessel'.
Recognizing our vessel, what do we receive and give a shape to?
Now we need to transform a world of information into recognizing our own 'vessel' and what to receive.
I think it is the 'vessel' that enables us to gaze at ourselves and at others, and then at the world.
